icon What is temporary accommodation?

Temporary housing solutions in New South Wales provide short-term relief, helping you secure a safe place to stay while you work on longer-term housing plans.

It can also be for individuals and families experiencing homelessness a short-term solution while they work on securing alternative housing, such as supported or transitional accommodation, social or affordable housing or a private rental.  This accommodation is time-limited and provided in low-cost motels or caravan parks.

icon How long can I stay in temporary accommodation?

The total duration of temporary accommodation provided depends on individual circumstances and housing needs, with no entitlement to a specific number of days. Extensions may be granted based on ongoing assessments.

icon What do I do once I've secured temporary accommodation?

During their stay in temporary accommodation, customers are responsible for:

  • Following accommodation rules: Adhering to the guidelines established by the accommodation provider.
  • Contributing to costs: Providing a financial contribution toward the accommodation, except for those fleeing domestic and family violence.
  • Staying connected: Maintaining regular contact with support services and actively pursuing long-term housing options.
  • Creating a support plan: Collaborating with housing services to develop a strategy for securing stable, permanent housing.

icon What is the South West Sydney Temporary Accommodation Program (TAP)?

The South-Western Sydney Temporary Accommodation Program (TAP) provides short-term, safe housing and support to help individuals transition into long-term accommodation.

To be eligible for TAP, you must be referred by HOMES NSW in the South-Western Sydney area.

Once enrolled in the program, Hume will:

  • Provide you with a safe place to stay
  • Help you build a positive rental history with documentation for future rental applications
  • Support you in finding suitable properties
  • Assist with transport to view potential homes
  • Help you apply for bond assistance
  • Connect you with other service providers

Hume delivers TAP in partnership with Homes NSW and has successfully supported thousands of individuals who have not been able to access Specialist Homelessness Services.

Hume offers a range of housing options services to people who are at risk of becoming homeless or need help to rent in the private rental market.

We can help facilitate and deliver a variety of private rental support services designed to help individuals and families:

  • Establish and sustain a tenancy in the private rental market
  • Cover urgent housing-related costs, such as bond, rent and water arrears
  • Provide temporary financial subsidies to eligible individuals to support their housing needs.

Rent Choice Start Safely
A rental assistance program that provides rent support to those who have already left or need to leave an unsafe home due to family or domestic violence.

Private Rental Subsidys
A rental assistance program that provides rent support to assist eligible applicants in accessing affordable accommodation in the private rental market, while they wait for suitable social housing to become available.

Rent Start Bond Loan
A specific type of bond loan available for individuals or families who are having difficulty paying the bond for a new private rental property. It is repaid through small, manageable instalments.
